Wecome to the Fly Away Family Blog Party!
Welcome blog party goers to Fly Away Family and the 2009 Ultimate Blog Party!
Never one to miss a good party, or free stuff, I thought I’d join in. I’m very new to blogging and still finding my way, but I’m definitely having fun with it and didn’t want to miss an opportunity to make some new blogging buddies.
Who Me?
I’m Mama Bird. I’m a SAHM of two boys. Big D is three and Little C is 7 months. My husband is amazing, gorgeous….and Australian. So, we essentially live between two countries. We work hard to make sure the boys are exposed to ‘Aussie’ stuff, like Vegemite. Yes, they like vegemite.
This also means we travel to Australia every year. Yes, it’s expensive…but totally worth it! It’s a big priority for us, so we sacrifice in other areas to make it happen.
What will I write about?
Well, I feel like I have something to share (don’t we all?). I know my family is not unique, but I’ve never been able to find anyone online in the same situation with similar saving/travel priorities. So, I decided that maybe there are others out there looking too. I’m here to write about what we do and hopefully inspire someone else.
I will also write about green living, healthy living, traveling with kids, traveling and living with food allergies, easy/healthy recipes, Australia (with occasional insights from my expat hubby) and anything else that I think is worth sharing.
Some things I plan to write about in the upcoming weeks are
- our big Spring Clean happening this weekend (updated!)
- keeping your momentum when saving
- more low sugar snacks and treats
- saving money with a clothing swap
- meeting goals – our Mint update for March (see Feb’s update)
- our gardening plans – blueberries, raspberries and strawberries
- my NEW blog design will be up soon
- and all sorts of other interesting topics as life happens!
I would love to win…
- the Ergo Baby Carrier from A Giveaway Addicted Mommy to lug around my chunky monkey baby boy who doesn’t like Mama to put him down
- Kitchen Aid Artisan Mixer at Moms Who Think so I can make more cookies (uh, how exactly is this going to help me lose my baby weight?)
- Or the gift card to Homegoods from HG OpenHouse to buy whatever cool stuff I find there!
- If those are already chosen, I would choose 19, 21, 22, 26, 30, 43, 88, 91, 99, 113, USC15, USC47, USC56, USC58, or anything else for boys or Mama.
I hope you’ve had a great time at my party and will come back soon!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I can’t imagine running around the world every year-I have a hard enough time getting me and the kids to through the grocery store without chaos.
I’ll definitely be around your blog, and I hope you stop back by and visit me often

Wow, how awesome is that to get to visit Australia every year. I have always wanted to go there. I loved your blog hoppin’ post. Have you tried the new Bud Light Lime. It really isn’t too bad especially if you already like Bud Light. Thanks for visiting my blog. By the way, if your hubby is anything like Hugh Jackman or Heath Ledger….YUM!
March 21st, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Not a big bud light fan…I like the more robust varieties.
As for Hugh Jackman, well, it’s a bit of an obsession. My husband actually laughs at me when I say a ‘bit’ of an obsession. He is one fine man. My hubby does remind me of Hugh in Van Helsing, when he wears his Aussie hat. Mmmmmm.

I would love to go to Australia every year! Maybe one day… I cannot believe your kids love vegemite! My dh got some for us and… yuck! That is definitely an acquired taste! If your kids eat that I am sure getting them to eat broccoli is a piece of cake!

(all of this said with a smile on my face… as grew up eating pb and pickle sandwiches….)

Hi! I’m blog hopping from the UPB. That’s so wonderful that your family is able to visit Australia every year. My mother-in-law has been and went on and on about how beautiful it is and how hospitable all the people are. How exciting for your boys! Have fun at the party. This is my first year

First, LOVE the blog template! Sherbet Blossom Designs is awesome!
Second, traveling to Australia every year is quite a commitment, both time and money. But, you are right, I am sure it is worth it.
Enjoy the party!

Amanda - Thanks! I’m glad you like the design. She’s still doing a few little tweaks, but almost done! And yes, traveling to Australia is definitely worth it to us, but ‘commitment’ is a good word for it.
Mom Time – It is wonderful to visit Australia every year! Come back and read about it sometime!
Hayley – Thanks for visiting and yes, my oldest boy loves going to Australia. He asks to go frequently actually, not realizing how far away it actually is!
Mocha Dad – Most of my recipes I cook (and post) are meatless (and easy!), so hope you come back!
Toni – yes, it’s amazing to me that my kids like vegemite also! Yuck! But, I start them young and it’s actually quite healthy for Vegans since it’s really high in Vitamin B (my son was practically vegan until he grew out of his milk/egg allergies, we don’t eat a lot of meat).
Thanks so much to everyone who has visited my blog and left comments. They just make my day!
