Sunday: The Beginning Or The End?

Okay, so I’m not coming back to blog yet, but I had to write about this.  And thank to all of you who made so many nice comments since I have been away…they have been SO lovely to read!

Do you think of Sunday as the start of the week or the end of the week?  My husband and I differ about this.

To me, Sunday is the last day of the week.  The day of rest.  God created the world in six days and on the seventh, he rested…or however it goes.  I’m not overly religious, but this is how I think of the week.  Sunday is a day of rest, to spend with family or whatever, at the end of the week…recharging so to speak, before the next week begins….on MONDAY.

My husband thinks of  Sunday as the first day of the week.  This makes no sense to me, therefore I cannot even argue his point.  Weirdo Australian.

What do you think?

I definitely think of it as the end of the week, now; however, I can see where he’s coming from. It seemed more like the beginning of the week when I was in college; a day to polish assignments and gear up for another week of classes. Whereas, Saturday was a day of celebration at the end of the week.

I tend to think it is the first day. I know it makes more sense that it is the 7th rest day, but my thoughts are completely based on the fact that most US calendars start the week on Sunday. When I moved to Australia, a lot of their calendars started on Monday. I had grown accustomed to seeing Wed as middle day on a calendar and so I don’t even check the top for the actual days when I would write down an appointment. I’ve struggled with this on Australian calendars becuase Thursday is the middle day. So confusing.

Huh, that is funny. I’ve never even noticed that Australian calendar’s start on Monday. Now it makes even less sense that my Australian husband thinks of Sunday as the first day and I think of Monday as the first day. I will have to point this out to him. ;)

I would have never thought to check the calendar. US says Sunday. But I think of Monday as the first day of the week (my office mates concur). :)

Sunday is the first day of the week i don’t care if the calender starts with friday, biblical speaking sunday is the first day and Shabbat(Saturday) is the last day of the week. Yes the system is set up now for sunday to be the last day of the week, but that not from God.

Please comment. I love to hear what you have to say.
