I’m Declaring War On Clutter & Stuff & Dirt
Next week is the start of Simple Mom’s Spring Cleaning party and I’m going to join in. I started spring cleaning a number of weeks ago and never really finished what I started.
Clutter is one of those things that I start to tackle and just get paralyzed because I just don’t know what to do with it.
So, the past couple of weeks, every time I see something that has no purpose in my house, it goes either in the goodwill/giveaway bag (I have one in my kitchen, the kid’s closet and one in my bedroom) or the trash. So, I’m slowly but surely getting rid of junk and baby things we no longer need and those things that we hang on to because we “might need it someday”.
The clutter is also impeding me from being able to clean effectively and efficiently. It’s hard with a 3 yr-old and 8 month old to be able to find the time to clean, so I have to be able to do things pretty quickly. If I have to take the time to clean around things or move things before I clean, well, frankly much of the time it just doesn’t happen. I get things picked up, but then don’t have time left to actually clean. Ick.
I want to change this. I have been reading the following on Zen Habits as well. That is one of my favorite blogs and I find it very motivating.
So, this weekend is going to be the perfect weekend…RAINY!….to declare war on the clutter in my house so I can participate in the Spring Cleaning Party and make lots of headway in the war on clutter and dirt in our house!
I’m hoping to also get some good organizing ideas from other participants who blog about it and post photos. There are some very clever people out there in the blogosphere!
Have you done your spring cleaning yet this year? If you have any tips for cleaning or organizing, please share them! I need all the help I can get!

I’ve been watching “How Clean is Your House” on youtube to get me motivated to clean. They usually have a few good tips in the episodes (polishing dark shoes with a banana peel, using vinegar and lemon juice as natural cleaners, etc.). However, I wouldn’t recommend having a snack while watching it. All of the houses are disgusting, but some are worse than others…

Polishing shoes with banana peels? I have never heard of that! Strange. I watched that show once though and couldn’t believe the filth the people were living in. Yes, it would definately be motivating to clean!

I don’t know if I have any tips, besides to just jump in. I’ve been putting off dealing with the clutter for a long time and joining the party has gotten me motivated and I’m getting things done and wow, does it ever feel good to sit down in a clean room in the evening and just soak up the lovely clean and organizedness of it.

Yes, I believe “jumping in” is a very good tip, actually. Sometimes it’s just so overwhelming and I don’t know where to begin that just jumping in and starting somewhere is the best solution! I’m about to do that right now since my oldest is at Parent’s Day Out today (thank goodness for that program!) and my youngest is finally napping! Here I go!
